Culture is something that we build together
Culture lives in everyday moments: how people speak up, how mistakes are handled, and what happens when no one is watching. People care most about a culture they have helped to shape, and that starts with feeling heard.
Globally, engagement fell to 20% in 2025, and Gallup estimates that low engagement cost the world economy around $10 trillion in lost productivity, or 9% of global GDP.
The difference engagement makes is well documented. Gallup's meta-analysis of more than 3.3 million employees found that business units in the top quarter for engagement outperform those in the bottom quarter by 23% in profitability and 18% in productivity, with 78% lower absenteeism.
Feeling heard is a big part of this. Gallup estimates that if six in ten employees strongly agreed their opinions count at work, organisations could see a 27% reduction in turnover, a 40% reduction in safety incidents and a 12% increase in productivity. It's no wonder that leaders want the sort of culture that encourages their people to speak up, and actually listen to what they have to say.
