ICL launches MentoraAI

We love to help people succeed here at ICL, which is why we decided to take our learner support up a notch or two. We’ve been working in partnership with Smart Training Solutions to produce an additional resource for learners undertaking the ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification with us.

We’re thrilled to unveil MentoraAI; an AI coach that enables learners to ask questions, get help with their assignment writing, and ask for solutions to specific problems that they may be facing as a manager in their workplace.
What is MentoraAI?

All learners enrolled on the ILM Level 3 in Leadership and Management will have an access code for the MentoraAI system. When they log in, they will see three prompts:

– Help me with learning
– Help me with writing my assignment, including giving feedback on drafts
– I have a specific management challenge in my workplace

To be clear, let’s state from the outset that MentoraAI is not a shortcut for learners to get their assignments written without thinking for themselves. This is made very clear to learners and checks are put into place to stop anyone from plagiarising material from the system in their assignments. MentoraAI will generate references for any quotes that are taken directly from the answers it provides.

The system was designed to give extra support to learners when trainers or colleagues may not be around to answer queries, and help with any questions that may come up during the course of the qualification.

Help with learning

MentoraAI will support learners by:

– Assessing their understanding of each unit of the course
– Identifying areas where additional support may be needed
– Provide practice questions and feedback
– Help learners to understand how to achieve the best assessment results
– Review draft assignments and provide constructive feedback

The system breaks down each unit as required, and is able to give an overview and ask critical and reflective questions to gauge a learner’s understanding of the material.

Assignment writing

The purpose of this is not to write learners’ assignments for them, but to give them guidance and feedback on what they have produced, to enable them to succeed with their qualification. Support given includes:

– Referencing the marking criteria and pass requirements
– Helping the learner to understand how they can improve their marks
– Ensuring the learners understand, and are meeting, the assessment criteria
Help with specific management challenges
The last section aims to provide assistance if learners are facing a challenge in their workplace and they’re not sure how to deal with it:
– Asks questions and systematically walks through the problem
– Links back to the relevant ILM unit
– Asks questions to understand the root cause.
– Provides support and signposts where to access further support if needed, along with tools to address the issue.

Again, we want to be clear that MentoraAI is not a tool to do the work for learners who are progressing through their ILM qualification; it is designed to provide practical support and give feedback. There is no substitute for a human and we at ICL are still available for any queries that learners may have, along with our partners who deliver the course.

However, we do believe that this is potentially groundbreaking stuff for the learning and development industry. We’re proud to be able to offer it to our learners and we will continue to develop the tool as we receive feedback. The intention is to roll it out to learners who are completing other modules with us.
